Who we are

It is only by training and developing a skilled workforce that we can continue to stay competitive in the world economy.  Les Wood Associates will help you by providing training classes and mentoring selected employees within your organization.

We offer the following series of workshop courses that will appeal to business owners, technical leaders, and entrepreneurs.  Taken individually or together, they provide the essential foundation needed for addressing day-to-day business issues as well as managing and growing business operations. Each workshop includes seven hours of student contact time and is offered as a one-day session or split into two or three shorter sessions:

RATIONAL PROBLEM SOLVING

How do your managers solve problems?  Why are company meetings so ineffective?  Why do your decision-making processes go astray?  Why do some organizations ‘stagnate’, seeming never to be able to make decisions and move forward?  Your company’s effectiveness in dealing with day-to-day problems affects every facet of your operation right down to the bottom line!  Using techniques proven by NASA, business owners, entrepreneurs and managers at all levels will learn the essential concepts and techniques needed to analyze a situation, specify a problem, determine root cause, and develop optimized decision and action plans. Participants will learn to 1) appraise difficult and complex situations by breaking them down into workable segments, 2) systematically assess possible causes comparing against known facts, 3) evaluate alternative options, and 4) select the best course of action for the given situation.  A sequence of Problem Solving Steps will be demonstrated using case studies that show how effective problem analysis results in better decisions.  (Course Leader – Dr. Michael J. Minot)

LEAN OPERATIONS

“Lean organizations” embody strength and agility; characteristics that are becoming essential to survive in today’s ever more competitive economy.  The course will take you through a variety of situations in managing a hypothetical organization during which you will learn how to make your organization lean and achieve the lean operational goals of:

  2. Providing customers with exactly what the need, when they need it.
  3. Reducing costs while improving quality.

You will see how going lean will affect the bottom line, bringing about cost savings and improved service with minimal capital outlay. .  This is an ideal course for entrepreneurs, operations managers, operations supervisors and potential future managers. (Course Leader – Mr. Leslie Wood)

Satisfying customers is key to the success of any business.  In this two-day seminar, we will discuss its importance and show you how you can survey your customers' satisfaction level in terms of your business' key variables.  We will discuss how you can use the results of your survey to improve your business' performance and profitability.  (Course Leader – Mr. Michael Kirsch)

SIX SIGMA QUALITY IMPROVEMENT - Six Sigma is a business process that allows companies to improve their bottom line significantly by designing and monitoring everyday business activities in ways that minimize waste and resources, while increasing customer satisfaction.  Business owners, entrepreneurs and managers at all levels will learn to use six sigma techniques to measure company performance, and to select and implement solutions that drive bottom line performance.   (Course Leader – Dr. Michael J. Minot)

ESSENTIALS OF PROCESS ENGINEERING - Business owners, entrepreneurs and technical leaders will learn critical engineering steps required to stabilize, troubleshoot and improve their manufacturing operations.  Participants will learn the difference between Production Controllable and Engineering Controllable problems, how to evaluate the status of current operations, as well as how to formulate improvement objectives.  The important role of process management procedures including materials control, standard operating procedures, audits and calibration are discussed.  Basic concepts of Statistical Process Control including Process Capability, Specification Limits & Control Limits, and Process Control Charts will be presented using practical examples.  Technical, operational and organizations issues associated with implementing results are also discussed.  (Course Leader – Dr. Michael J.
